30 Songs – Laughter

Sugar asked me to participate in a Thirty-day Song Challenge. Happy to join in with her and post more music. I’m going to alter my participation parameters a bit and only post after Sugar posts hers.

For a song that induces laughter, I’m going to pass on the usual suspects (hello Weird Al) because that’s too obvious. Rather than cite a track that consciously attempts to be funny, a piece that always brings a smile came to mind very quickly.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody

Look, A Night at the Opera was influenced by the Marx Brothers film of the same name. While the album isn’t necessarily funny, Bohemian Rhapsody is such an audacious experimental rock classic that I tend to shake my head and smile when it comes on. Only true artists could put together this insane mutation and make it work, spectacularly. (Granted, the true subject matter of the song is most likely very unfunny. Such were the demons that plagued the musical genius of Freddie Mercury.)

Fine, I’ll put in a song that has 100% comedic value.

The Cast of Galavant – Maybe You’re Not the Worst Thing Ever

There. That’s funny. (I still prefer Monty Python though.)
